A WEEKEND IN THE BIG APPLE ♡
This past weekend I was lucky enough to be able to fly up to NYC to visit some close friends I grew up with. I haven’t been to the city since I was about 17, and so being in my 20s and visiting my friends while seeing New York from a “local” perspective was amazing! Plus I had only ever been to NYC in the wintertime when it was freeeeezing cold. Here’s to wearing actual summer(ish) clothes (although it rained Saturday and Sunday). Of course besides spending time with my girlfriends, I was suuuper pumped to hit up some healthy eateries. In the past I have ordered juices, smoothies, and raw goodies from Juice press delivered to me in Georgia, so I was ECSTATIC (like crazy, obsessed fan girl…) to finally go to the actual Juice press in NYC. Luckily enough one was only 0.3 miles away from where I was staying with my friend…(thanks Google Maps 🙂 ) The Remedy turmeric tonic…saved my hangover!
JP Black Coffee Blend…heaven on earth ♡
Juice press is AMAZING. I could LIVE in Juice press if it was allowed. The fact that there are more than 10 locations in the city alone is amazing. When can I move to New York?!
Juice press sells vegan/gluten free smoothies, fresh pressed juices, raw foods like veggie sushi, zucchini noodles, salad, and heavenly desserts that are out of this world. They also have healthy snacks like nuts, dried fruit, and chia seeds, coconut oil to take home to make your own healthy smoothies. I can’t get enough of it! My wallet would totally be empty if I lived near one of these. Everything is raw, vegan, non-GMO, and gluten free.
Flashback to the first night, we walked by my friend’s apartment and chose an Italian restaurant called Frank’s for the first night out to eat. It had a cute outdoor patio area so we sat outside and immediately ordered a bottle of wine. 😉 (Luckily, this was hte one night it wasn’t raining) I ordered one of the specials, grilled trout with pesto that came with garlic sauteed spinach and tomatoes. It was PERFECT. My friend ordered an amazing pasta dish that was so big it looked like she barely made a dent in it (after 20 minutes of eating). This place was a perfect neighborhood eatery with really decadent food. All of NYC’s restaurants have really fresh, quality ingredients with bold flavor. I was impressed!
The next day, we brunched a bit later in the afternoon after an incredible night out dancing at The Jane, a hotel with a trendy late-night DJ bar scene. The high ceilings paired with a roaring fireplace and people dancing everywhere made me feel as if I was in Gossip Girl. So classy. So fun. So intoxicating. The next day we met up with another friend from home and brunched at a place called Cookshop, filled with decadent savory items, healthy salads, and famous bloody marys. I obviously had to get the BLT bloody…it was fantastic. I was full after a late-night diner crawl at 230am (oopsies) so I ordered light and got a deliciously crisp vegetable salad. It was amazing! The salad was filled with farm-to-table produce, and I could definitely tell.
Saturday was spent napping post-brunch before heading out in the rain (ugh. pouring rain) for shopping, hanging out, and a late dinner. I was absolutely STOKED that my friend took me to a COMPLETELY GLUTEN-FREE RESTAURANT. Every. single. thing. was gluten free. From the breadsticks we got upon arrival to the full gluten-free menu, drinks, and desserts, it was ALL FREE OF GLUTEN. I was in heaven. I was so excited to get a decadent gluten-free meal that made me worry NOT ONE BIT about asking whether something was gluten-free or not. The restaurant was small, eclectic, and smelled AMAZING. It really felt like home to me. The breadsticks were long and crunchy on the outside, soft of the inside and perfect. The restaurant’s main dishes are risotto, with tons of different mixings and parings, but they also had gluten-free paninis and pizza as well.
After reading reviews and speaking with my friend who had been there before, it was an easy pick of what I was going to order and it tasted like pure buttery heaven. I’m weak when it comes to truffles. Truffle butter, truffle oil, truffle sea salt….I’m hooked!
My favorite meal of the weekend…. Mushroom, Mozzarella and Truffle Oil Risotto ♡
I cannot express in words how absolutely to-die-for this dish was. I completely cleaned my plate. The truffle oil was rich and decadent, the pieces of buffalo mozzarella melted and blended perfectly into the risotto, and the mushrooms were flavorful and rich. I had never tasted anything as good as this in my life. I can only dream of going back and trying all the other incredible risottos they had…
But really…..can I move to New York already?!?!
What an amazingly fun, tasty, adventurous, happy, friendship and dancing filled weekend. The rain couldn’t put a damper on it if it tried (and it did try…)
