What a day.
Learning to make macarons was one of the most interesting, exciting, and delicious days I have ever had. My best friend Cameron told me that our local mall hotspot for anything kitchen and cooking related–Sur la Table–hosts cooking classes and recommended that I take my boyfriend to one when he came to town. I’m glad I listened! I checked their website out and they had a host of creative classes to choose from; Paris Date Night, Surf and Turf, Croissant making, to Macaron making and I had to go with the macarons. First off, they are naturally gluten-free (made with almond meal! and lots of sugar 😉 ). Secondly, my boyfriend and I shared a special memory for macarons because it was the first gift he ever surprised me with. And BAM! Now I can make my own macarons (after a few first failed attempts of course)
We had a blast making them.
The class had 16 attendees so we were grouped into groups of 4, we washed our hands and aproned-up, listened to our instructions, and went at it. We made two different kinds: Orange Buttercream and Coconut Lime. Both were to die for, but the orange buttercream macarons came out prettier AND tasted the best (to me). They were heavenly.Fluffy, buttery, soft macaron cookies. Whoever invented macarons is a straight GENIUS! I would definitely take another cooking class, and plan on it. I bought a few fun things at the store to enable me to attempt making these babies on my own at home, so hopefully I can come up with some fun creations (red velvet macarons, anyone?) Cheers to new adventures in the kitchen (and baking is not my forte, so I was stoked to see how awesome they looked!)
