I’m so excited about fall this year. Something about feeling the cool air, going to the mountains next weekend, and craving a movie + snuggle sesh with my man all make me LOVE that October is finally here! Bring on the flannel, people. I have a few exciting things this month that I am working on and aiming towards accomplishing. So, here are 2 of the goals I have that you all need to keep me on track to reach!
1. Completing my third half marathon: the AthHalf.
In all honesty, this is not something I am looking forward to, but I know I should probably do it. Story goes, I signed up for this half marathon way back in June, thinking that I would have enough time to train for it as I did for last year’s AthHalf. Well, BAM! I got offered my full-time job as a nutritionist with the Public Health dept right after I graduated in August, and now I’m working 40+ hours a week. The little free time I have now I’d rather be spending time with my boyfriend, friends, my pets, cooking healthy foods, and doing my other fave workouts like BLAST and Pure Barre, or simply just lounging my lazy bum on the couch! I’m usually exhausted after a long day at work, and the last thing I want to do is race home and run 7 miles in the dark! Soo…let’s just say I haven’t been training like I should. I got some great new running shoes and have put them to use, and luckily had time to do a long 8-miler this past Sunday. But, I’m still nervous! The race is Sunday October 19th, so it is coming up soon! My ass better be there or else I’ll just be embarrassed I gave up without even trying. So, my goal is to complete it and not wimp out and skip it!
2. Getting a photo accepted on foodgawker / improving my food photography.
What is foodgawker you say? ONLY THE GREATEST FOOD BLOGGERS’ RECIPES/PHOTOS/ WEBSITE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB. If you are hungry and you go to foodgawker, be warned that you may drool and may go insane, and want to grab the food right out of your computer screen. Food bloggers can submit their food photography/recipe posts onto foodgawker, and if they are accepted they are posted on the website. This increases their blog traffic by the BUTTLOADS (huge reason why this is a goal of mine). All of the photos are stunning, and the food recipes are simply amazing. You can search all of the recipes by category, such as “gluten free”, or just search your own phrases such as “pumpkin recipes” or “quick dinners”. This website is the bomb, and it has inspired me to take my blog to the next level with my photography. I have always loved photography and dabbled with it in high school, but I’ve never taken a formal class or received any proper training. I’m DYING to take a photography class, but simply don’t have the time. The camera I use is a Nikon D50 DSLR base I got for Christmas years ago. I have two lenses; one for portraits and one that has a wide range of 18mm to 200mm. The camera rocks, but I still have wayyyyyys to go before I am proud of my photographs. To try and help my food photos a bit, I researched and found the one thing I really needed to help me: a tripod. I shoot in low light in my apartment, so to help steady my photos and make them crisp without having to use flash, a tripod is necessary to get the right shot under low light. I researched and finally purchased the SLIK PRO 700DX Professional Tripod with Panhead from Amazon for a reasonable $139.95. Other tripods came separately without the head attachment, were super expensive, or weren’t exactly what I was looking for. I’m hoping to try it out next week when it arrives! Here is an example of a food photo taken with a tripod:
I cant WAIT to try this out and am hoping this will improve my photos immensely, increasing my chances at getting one accepted on foodgawker. That way, more people will find out about my blog and hopefully love it!
Example of a food photographer who improved her photos by learning tips for food photography, updating with a tripod, investing in the Adobe Lightroom program (next on my to-buy list) and learning to shoot in Manual mode:
See what learning about food photography can do to your photos?!? I can’t wait to try and take mine from “okay” to “HOLY @#*& that photo makes me want to eat that right off the screen!”
Yall have a beautiful day and come up with some of your own goals to conquer this month!
