Happy October y’all!
This past week was my FIRST week of rotations! For those that don’t know “dietetic” talk, we must go through an internship where we complete 1200 supervised practice hours under Registered Dietitians, to be able to be eligible to take the RD exam. We do various rotations with different departments such as school foodservice, hospital foodservice, long-term care, clinical, diabetes management, counseling, etc to see all the various aspects of dietetics! This is a great way for me to get some exposure to everything so I can find out where my niche will be.
My first two weeks of rotations are with a school system in rural Georgia. This past week, I made bulletin boards for the elementary school, marketed school nutrition materials at a school resource fair, constructed a meal plan for a student with a gluten allergy, taught kids about the vegetable “jicama” with the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program, and I am currently working on developing some marketing material for farm-to-school as October is National Farm-to-School month! Here are some recent pics from my first week at the school and other projects we’ve done so far 🙂
