Yesterday morning I reluctantly woke up at 5:45 am (!!) to go running as I felt the need to move my lazy legs. (Sitting all day at work makes me CRAVE movement even more than usual…plus I woke up early to run the day before and couldn’t because of a freakin’ TORNADO WARNING…). I’m not gonna lie, it was a breezy chilly morning and I was definitely moving slow (don’t judge my pace…thats not my usual! haha), but I managed to do 3.8 miles and a few ab workouts when I got home so I started off the morning on the right foot (or feet rather. hehe)
To be honest, working full-time now it’s hard to find the time and energy to workout as much as I’m used to. I used to workout at least 6 days a week, and usually at least some kind of movement daily. Now its at least 4 days if I’m lucky/not exhausted. I definitely try to workout on the weekends when I have more time, and I’ve learned to just wake up early and get in workouts or I won’t want to do them at night when I’m tired. You gotta do what you gotta do!
After my workout, I was already hungry for breakfast, so I snagged a quick Cinnamon Roll Quest bar (aka heaven) before hitting the shower and leaving for work. On the way to work I stopped by Jittery Joes, Athens’ own fine coffee roastery. I got a medium skinny caramel cafe au lait. In non-coffee talk that means regular coffee with a little sugar-free syrup and some steamed skim milk 🙂 . It was the perfect pick me up before a busy day at work!
After a few hours into work, I got a little hungry (I forgot I had burned almost 450 calories this morning) and snacked on a banana and the best.damn.nut.butter: Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. Usually I buy the individual one serving packets (which is especially helpful to control portion size…because when it comes to this almond butter I could probably eat the whole jar in a few days-EASY), but since I am always buying them, I figured it would probably be cheaper just to buy the whole jar. This stuff is heavenly if you’ve never tried it before; it’s smooth, a little salty, a little sweet, and everything you’d want in a nut butter: no added crap. Just real, creamy goodness.
Lunch was leftovers from homemade turkey chili I made Sunday night…perfect comfort food now that it’s mid-October.
- Lower in fat than most chilli’s, this one has protein-filled turkey and beans, and low sodium broth with veggies. SO. GOOD. (I’ll have to blog this recipe sometime soon!)
After work, I stopped by the Athens Farmer’s Market downtown since I haven’t been to it recently and wanted to see what they had. (Plus, I knew they had my favorite fresh pressed juices and almond milk 2 for $10 so that definitely was pushing me to check it out)
I ended up buying a fresh apple + veggie juice, almond milk, a small pumpkin, and some fresh radishes 🙂
Since I had both fresh local butter lettuce and radishes, I decided to make a delicious salad with all sorts of colorful vegetables and goodness on top. My mom also gave me some beautiful kale leaves she grew in her own garden (!! :)) at home. I had a few kale leaves + butter lettuce, topped with radishes, carrots, cherry tomatoes, walnuts, avocado slices, and my favorite secret French dressing in the entire world (You can only purchase it by cases of like 14 by phone). This salad was FULL of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and FLAVOR! My body def thanked me for it.
After dinner Nathan and I watched a few episodse of How I Met Your Mother (the greatest show on planet earth–we are finally on the last season ahh!) and for dessert I drank my
crack delicious Vanilla Almond Milk from Journey Juice. SO CREAMY. SO FLAVORFUL. I just want someone to deliver one to me every single day for the rest of my life.
