You don’t need me to tell you the countless benefits of yoga, I’m sure you’ve heard at least one of them at some point in your life. From better sleep, less stress, better emotional health, spiritual wellbeing, to beautiful lean muscles, yoga is great for more than just the physical side of health. You can think of yoga as not only strengthening for your body, but also for your brain. In fact, unless you are doing intense, extra hot, extra vinyasa yoga, you likely aren’t burning a ton of calories as compared to weight training or cardiovascular exercise. The true benefits (for weight management and overall health) are from the mental effects.
Next time you are about to do yoga, try this little exercise:
Prior to practicing yoga, write down any and all foods you could eat at that moment. If money or location didn’t matter, what food would you want to eat right at that moment? Write it down, keep it, and then post-yoga, do the same thing. What would you eat at this exact moment? Do it right after you practice yoga. You likely will be surprised at the differences….
Here’s a little snippet of a yoga flow I try to practice at home as often as I can! You don’t have to go to a yoga class to receive the benefits or truly “practice yoga”. Yoga by definition includes bodily movement + breath. As long as you are breathing & moving, you are receiving the benefits!
